Demerara Oxygen Company (DOCOL), bottlers and distributors of TexGas in Guyana, has announced price reductions, effective today.
The company announced that a 9kg or 20lb cylinder of TexGas will be retailed for $2,900 in Georgetown, West Coast and West Bank Demerara, East Coast Demerara and East Bank Demerara while the price will be $3,000 in all other areas. Chief Executive Officer of DOCOL, Mr. Shameer Hoosein, said that the reduction has come about due to the significant drop in oil prices on the world market and the efficiency gained from the recently installed automated LPG filling plant at its head office at Eccles.
Mr. Hoosein said that the price for TexGas has dropped steadily on the local market since September after it had reached a high of $3,750 earlier this year. These new prices are comparable to September 2007.
“We at DOCOL are confident that this reduction will help to ease the burden faced by consumers, especially as we approach the Christmas holidays. We could also see a reduction in the price of many products because of this.”
Last month, the company, which has been in existence for 60 years, installed a new automated LPG filing plant, which increased its filling capacity by 50 percent. Hoosein urged retailers to adhere to the new price so that consumers can benefit tremendously from this new pricing structure, especially during the festive season.
