Imran Hassan batted like a man possessed and treated a fair size crowd to a sumptuous display of exhilarating stoke-play on a sun kissed day at the Cumberland ground in Canje Berbice last Sunday.
The attractive right-hander smashed eight fours and four sixes in an unbeaten 93 as defending national 20/20 champions Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) defeated Young Warriors by 63 runs in a feature 20/20 clash.
Hassan who faced just 52 balls in his pugnacious innings, got support from former first-class player Neil Barry (33) as MSC reached 154-3 off their allotted 17 overs after their overs had to be reduced to accommodate the late arrival of the MSC team from Georgetown.
National under-19 player Seon Hetmyer showed glimpses of his obvious talent in an elegant 39 but only Michael Newland of the other batsmen reached double figures as the hosts crashed to 91 all out in 16.2 overs.
Leg-spinner Jermaine Joseph, who is preparing to leave early next year for another season of Barbados club cricket, took 3-4 from four impressive overs and got support from left-arm spinner Damien Vantull (3-17) and former Guyana youth pacer Quasen Nedd (2-23).
Earlier, MSC lost ex-Guyana under-19 wicketkeeper Delroy Jacobs, who was run out for six at 8-1 before former national youth player Danny Narayan (11) was removed by Randolph Baker at 83-2 as Hassan went to work on the hapless bowlers on a slow track.
Former West Indies ‘B’ team Keeper Kenneth Wong was left unbeaten on one after Barry fell to Newland in the closing stages of the MSC innings.
