A 24-year-old man beheaded his 57-year-old father at around 07:00 hrs yesterday at a desolate farm at Waikabra, on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway, after the parent refused to give him $200.
Stanislaus Gomes, called ‘Santa’, was also chopped on other parts of the body by his allegedly drug-addicted son. At the time he was brushing his teeth in his yard.
Gomes’s son then went to a neighbour’s home and informed the resident about his act, and waited for the police to arrive.
Police recovered the cutlass that was used in the attack.
Gomes’s body remained at the scene for several hours before a hearse arrived to take it away.
Kaieteur News understands that Gomes had resided at Soesdyke but had moved to Waikabra about eight years ago, where he established a thriving farm.
Gomes and his son were the only residents on the property.
A nephew of the victim described his uncle as a “quiet and friendly” individual. However, he alleged that the son was a drug addict who would habitually threaten to kill his father.
“For about three, four years he has been using drugs real hard,” the nephew said.
“About two years ago we put him in the Observation Ward (at the GPHC) because of the remarks he used to make (about wanting to kill his father). He used to take the treatment but then he relapsed.”
Kaieteur News understands that Gomes would tend to the farm and would allow his son to sell the produce.
It is alleged that yesterday, the son asked Gomes for $200 to purchase “weed”, but the father refused.
According to reports, the 57-year-old farmer was brushing his teeth at around 09:00 hrs yesterday when the son sneaked up on him and began to hack his father about the body with a cutlass.
The top of Gomes’s head was lopped off by one of the blows.
Gomes’s nephew said that the suspect then walked to the home of two nearby residents and informed them that he “had just killed his father”.
Journalists from several media houses rushed to the area on hearing of the incident.
Some got lost trying to find the murder scene.
