Friday at a simple ceremony, the New Building Society, Essequibo branch, located in Richmond Village, Essequibo Coast made a contribution of two hundred thousand dollars towards the staging of a round robin 40-over cricket competition under the aegis of the North Essequibo Committee [NECC].
Acting manager of NBS Mr. Kevin Mac Lingam handed over the sponsorship cheque to NECC treasurer, Mr. Hakim Khan.
Mr. Mac Lingam said it has been the third consecutive year since the bank has been making financial contributions towards the development cricket in the region.
Mr. Khan thanked the manager and reassured him that the game will be played in the true spirit.
Committee member of the North Essequibo Cricket committee, Mr. Prince Holder expressed his heart felt gratitude towards the company and said that because of the sponsorship many junior cricketers have been afforded with the opportunities to play for Guyana at the under-15 level.
Two games are scheduled to be played each day at various venues during the competition which is scheduled to be played on the November 23 right up to December 8.
Ravens will play Sparwin at Sparta, Lima are at home to Gunners, Walton Hall oppose Young Achievers Walton Hall, Danielstown clash with Police at Lima and Hampton Court will play Essequibo Technical Institute.
The winner of the competition will receive $25,000 and a trophy, while the runner-up collects $15,000 and a trophy. Batsman and player of the final match all will receive trophies.
