Drug agents from the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) yesterday arrested a woman when she attempted to post a packet containing cocaine by way of the United Parcel Service (UPS).
The parcel contained a gift set comprising a bottle of cologne, body lotion and a skin cream.
It all started at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, when CANU officials carried out a check on a parcel with similar contents that was destined for Canada.
The sender was listed as a Christine from Georgetown.
When the drug agents tested the lotion and the skin cream it positively showed that it was laced with cocaine.
An investigation was launched and it was while questioning a staffer at the UPS Georgetown office that the woman turned up with a similar parcel.
Another test was done on the contents of that package an again it showed positive for cocaine.
The woman was promptly taken into custody and is likely to be charged soon.
There have been several busts of cocaine being smuggled through the postal service and according to a source this may be the first time that cocaine was found being smuggled through a private courier service.
Is this oil a blessing or a curse?
