….three aborted take-off attempts prove too many
A system malfunction on a Caribbean Airlines flight bound for New York via Piarco Airport yesterday, resulted in the aircraft being grounded at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.
Kaieteur News understands that there were at least three unsuccessful attempts to commence the journey, but the decision was eventually made to abort after it was discovered that the Air Speed Indicator was malfunctioning.
At 13:15 hrs, flight 424 made its first attempt to take-off, but that was aborted.
Passengers were told that there was a minor malfunction and that it would have been resolved.
A short while after, another attempt was made, but there was a similar setback.
This occurred a third time, and the plane was grounded.
Speaking with this newspaper, a Civil Aviation Authority source said that, at around 13:00 hrs, it was discovered that the aircraft’s air indicator was not functioning, and that was rectified.
However, the source stated, when the plane was about to take off, the alarm went off, signalling that the indicator was again malfunctioning.
This newspaper was told that passengers would have been placed on a flight that was scheduled to depart at midnight.
