A Linden man who was wanted for burglary and other offences was shot in the leg yesterday during a confrontation with police at Blue Berry Hill Squatting Area, Wismar.
The suspect, Julius Branker, was reportedly wounded after he opened fire on TSU ranks who were attempting to arrest him.
Kaieteur News understands that a firearm, believed to have been stolen from a policeman some time ago, was recovered from the suspect.
Two other men, who were said to have been providing assistance to the fugitive, were also detained.
According to reports, TSU ranks stationed at the Mackenzie Police Station converged at a house at Blue Berry Hill Squatting Area, at around 13:30 hrs yesterday, after being informed that Branker was hiding out there.
It is alleged that when the ranks approached the house, the suspect discharged a round at them. Branker was wounded when the ranks returned fire.
He is being treated at the Mackenzie Hospital.
Police had also received reports that Branker was wounded in October while entering a Linden businessman’s yard.
However, the injured man had scaled the businessman’s fence and escaped, leaving a trail of blood in the yard.
