“Yuh Worship, I just want to go to the compound and do some work,” were the words of Augustine Cupertino. He had just pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis.
The defendant was probably hinting that he wanted to maintain the Georgetown Prison compound.
It was alleged that the defendant had in his possession 10 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
According to police prosecutor Desiree Griffith, on the day in question, at around 17:30 hours, parties of policemen were canvassing the area. The police saw the defendant riding a bicycle and approached him. This led to the search.
It was revealed that Cupertino had in a white plastic bag in his possession a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.
Before passing sentence, the magistrate required that the arresting rank produce his antecedents. The matter was adjourned to Tuesday before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton.
