United States based businessman Eddie Hilliman, Manager of Sterling Optical based in Washington DC yesterday presented one of the Lien trophies, cash and footballs to the organisers of the annual Kashif and Shanghai football tournament which is in its 19th year.
Hilliman in handing over the trophy and US $300 to co-director Kashif Muhammad declared that this is part of his policy of giving back to his homeland.
“This to my mid is a great competition that the Guyanese community locally and overseas look forward to at year end and I have always been making my little contribution to its development over the years.
I would like to see it keep growing even bigger and moving to higher levels where more international teams participate.” The businessman also shared that he is a constant supporter of other organisations.
This year’s tournament, which has Trinidad and Tobago’s K Brans Sports and Cultural Club as the lone overseas club, was launched on October 30 at the Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel and will officially open on December 14 at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground in the Bauxite Mining Town of Linden. One million dollars is at stake for the champions of the 2008/9 edition.
