– suspected of murder, robberies and abduction
Yesterday at approximately 15:00 hours, a police patrol on the embankment road at Lusignan encountered four men, who the police said were behaving in a suspicious manner, riding on a pair of motorcycles. The men attempted to escape after seeing the ranks.
After a high speed chase that wound through the Lusignan area, the police eventually apprehended two of the men. The chase ended when one of the motorcycles collided with Oswell Belle, 60, in a bid to escape the law enforcement agents.
Devon Taylor and Dennis Brutus were immediately apprehended by the police. Taylor, the rider, broke his right forearm and Brutus sustained minor bruises about the body.
The other two men on the other motorcycle managed to escape, and testimony from the two apprehended men identified them as Jermain, who is said to be a soldier, and Eon who is reputedly an old soldier.
The crashed motorcycle was found not to have any documents.
Upon his detention, Taylor gave his name as Marlon Adams. Police ranks explained to this newspaper that Marlon Adams was a man who had died earlier this year.
After being apprehended, it was discovered that Taylor, who also gave his profession as a mason, is wanted in connection with a murder. Further investigation showed that he was also wanted in connection with a series of armed robberies which took place both this year and last year.
More so, it has also been alleged that Taylor is also wanted for abducting a 14-year-old and detaining her in a house for four days earlier in the year.
Taylor told police that he was before the courts on a drug charge; however, police ranks said that he was also wanted for escaping from lawful custody in 2006. Police suspect that Taylor had used the alias of Marlon Adams because he was wanted for so many charges.
The pillion rider, Brutus, said that he was a mason cum musical set operator.
Kaieteur News has learnt that the police received information that on Thursday last, the same two men were seen riding the motorcycle out of Coldingen and into Buxton carrying a large bag which the police suspected contained guns and ammunition.
It is suspected that the four men were planning to rob the shop they were seen around when the police saw them and gave chase.
Police ranks affirmed that the two men had been wanted for some time, and said that they were pursuing leads which they hoped would allow them to apprehend the other two men.
