A taxi driver has been hospitalised with a gunshot wound after he was attacked and robbed by three gunmen yesterday.
Reports are that 36-year-old Albert Narine was attacked by the men, two of whom were armed with guns, some time at around 14:50 hours in ‘A’ Field Sophia.
According to a police statement one of the men hired the taxi to go to ‘A’ Field, Sophia. Upon arrival the man who hired the taxi went into a shop where he was joined by two other men. Upon observing this, Narine became suspicious and attempted to drive away. However, the men shot at him at him, hitting him on his left upper arm.
They then relieved Narine of two gold chains valued $300,000, two cell phones and $27,000 in cash. The men made good their escape.
The wounded man was assisted by public-spirited citizens to the hospital where he was treated and subsequently admitted.
