Yesterday at it was reported via an email emanating from [email protected] that the entire Guyana football team has retired from national duties in protest of treatment meted out to them by the Guyana Football Federation administration.
They are calling on its president Colin Klass to demit office. Up to press time, Kaieteur Sport was unable to contact Mr. Klass.
Another football official said he heard of ‘some kind of problem’ minutes before Kaieteur Sports contacted him via telephone, but could not confirm what transpired.
Here is the content of the email: “Tonight (yesterday) 3am at the Crown Plaza, Trinidad as President Klass was leaving for Guyana, 20 International players took a stand to resign from International football until Colin Klass steps down as president of the Guyana Football Federation after 19 years in the position.
This was hours after a magnificent performance in a 1 – 1 draw against Caribbean power house Trinidad and Tobago.
The entire team, spearheaded by Captain Charles Pollard, have called for a FIFA vote of no confidence against Colin Klass and his entire administration.
The 20-man squad assembled and confronted President Klass about poor standards, training, equipment, state of camp, money outstanding and constant disorganisation during International duty.
The 20 men retired tonight from International football just 18 months after Guyana were ranked second in the Caribbean according to FIFA Rankings despite the shockingly bad administration.
The players are calling on the entire Guyanese sports fraternity for support. We are appealing to all our fans to boycott all GFF Sanctioned football until Klass and his administration go! All the players back home are called to support this strike!
Coming from the whole team “Guyanese football suffered for too long. Enough is Enough!”
It’s a shame that such a drastic set of events has had to transpire, however the players have had enough of this administrations constant incompetence.
The squad remarked, “This is for the future of Guyanese football! May the football world hear our cry for help.”
Please pass this on far and wide so the world press can hear our story.
Regards,
The Guyana Football Team
