Former national under-15 skipper Harrinarine Chattergoon has not been included in Guyana’s touring party which will participate in the regional 50-overs under-17 cricket tournament in Trinidad from December 11-17.
The brother of West Indies opener Sewnarine Chattergoon, the 16-year-old Chattergoon, who struggled with the bat in the CLICO Inter-County two-day competition and the three 50-overs trials matches despite his obvious talent, is the only surprise omission as the 20-man squad was trimmed to 14.
The six-team tournament has been organized by the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board and involves host Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Barbados, Jamaica, Windward Islands and Leeward Islands.
Guyana will be captained by talented Wicketkeeper and Demerara under-17 Skipper Dexter Solomon with Berbice batsman Jamally Odle (the grandson of former West Indies ODI Keeper Milton Pydanna) as his Vice Captain.
The team will be coached by former Test fast bowler Reon King and managed by former Guyana fast bowler Robert ‘Pacer’ Adonis and include Essequibo opening batsman Herell Greene, who scored the most runs (118) in the Inter County competition and Demerara off-spinner Ricardo Devers who captured the most wickets (13) in the inter county tournament including 7-37 against Berbice in the final.
The vastly improved Demerara fast bowler Seon Daniels should be the spearhead of the three-prong pace attack with support from the versatile left-arm pacer Andre Stoll and the lively Keon Joseph who played at the regional under-19 level this year in Barbados.
Devers, West Indies under-15 leg-spinner Amir Khan and Berbice left-arm spinner Treston Carmichael are the specialists spinners selected while Berbice should open the batting with support from Odle, Delon Fernandes, Clinton Pestano, Dayanand Roopnarine, La Fleur, Solomon and Stoll.
The Guyana 14-man squad:-D. Solomon (Captain), J. Odle (V/Capt), H. Greene, Q. Ovid-Richardson, D. Roopnarine, D. Fernandes, C. Pestano, J. LaFleur, A. Stoll, S. Daniels, A. Khan, K.
