The Brickdam Cathedral was yesterday filled with scores of individuals who desired to pay their final respects to founder and Editor-in-Chief of Stabroek News, David Francis de Caires, who departed this life last week Saturday.
At a memorial ceremony befitting an outstanding son of the soil, the life and times of the fighter for press freedom were eloquently captured in a eulogy presented by his long time friend Miles Fitzpatrick, who was moved to the brink of tears on many occasions. Several tributes were also offered in de Caires’s memory.
Among those who attended the ceremony were Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, several ministers of the Government, members of the People’s Progressive Party Civic and the People’s National Congress Reform, Members of Parliament, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, and members of the business community.
