Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon, has said that Cabinet is actively considering the award of the procurement of prepaid meters, which is part of the Guyana Power and Light strategy to minimise power losses in the system.
At his post Cabinet media briefing yesterday, Dr. Luncheon noted that not every Guyanese will have the prepaid meter, since it is more than likely that it would be applied in discreet areas.
“The procurement is probably a minuscule percentage of meters that currently are in the system to replace or to provide new customers, according to a fairly established pilot programme, and to expect to review the results and use the same results to determine how it would be grasped and implemented in the future,” Dr. Luncheon said.
Meanwhile, Cabinet has approved $139 million for the supply and installation of a 35-MVA power transformer at the power company, while $20 million is being awarded for the machining of the number four engine at the Canefield Power Station.
Dr. Luncheon said that Cabinet also welcomed the news of the Skeldon Factory supplying 7.5 megawatts of power to the Berbice grid. He added that, currently, the problem with generation at the Berbice grid is being addressed.
“The situation there would be strengthened with the completion of the rehabilitation and repairs to generating equipment, and also the completion of the conversion of the diesel set to heavy fuel oil operation.”
The Guyana Sugar Corporation (Guysuco) is supplying some seven megawatts to the Guyana Power and Light from its Skeldon plant.
And to assist with energy saving in the country, Dr. Luncheon added, Guyana has been able to secure a supply of energy efficient fluorescent blubs from the Government of Cuba, which would soon be going on sale to the Guyanese people.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
