Dear Editor,
Today I let go of the fear of letting my young daughter go to school in a taxi by herself.
I just cannot leave my chair in front of the television. I want to see and hear it all. All about Barack Obama.
I am a single parent who over the years has instilled in my girls the importance of education.
I have always had big dreams for them but underlying it all was the pain felt from the fact that both of their fathers chose not to be there for them.
However, they are now in a special league. It is no news for me that success could be achieved without the presence of a father in the home.
Neither mothers nor their children should see this as a negative nor use this as an excuse. Let us put the hurt and pain aside.
As strong single women we could bring up children who could move the earth. I hope mine do.
God has a plan. May he continue to bless single mothers and supportive grandmothers.
When I cry for Obama, I cry for my children – for the possibilities. I cry a happy cry. “Yes we can” has a special meaning for me.
