– Residents fear upcoming rainy season
As Guyanese prepare for the upcoming rainy season, residents of Bartica say they are in dread.
For the business community, business will be slowed and for persons living in far flung areas it will be difficult to move around.
Recently the Bartica Potaro Road between One Mile and Four Mile was repaired with loam, which many say is only good enough for the dry season.
These roads are mainly used by the mining communities that use large trucks to access the interior with goods. With the rainy season quickly approaching, residents say the road will once again be a disaster.
They say that during heavy rainfall sections of the road often wash away. And apart from the traffic hazard posed by the wet loam, hinterland businesses lose, since a trip that would normally take one day on a dry road would take sometimes two or more.
Vehicles become stuck in ditches caused by soil erosion.
One commuter said that a bitumen surface would have been the ideal thing for such a location.
The residents are calling on the relevant authorities to consider effecting proper repairs to the road which leads from Sherima to Bartica.
Along with members of the business community who solely depend on mining, travel is becoming more expensive and things will only get worse during the rainy season.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
