A female security guard was left in a critical condition after she was viciously stabbed by a jealous, knife-wielding boyfriend who invaded her worksite shortly after midnight yesterday.
Patricia Rose, 44, of Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara, was stabbed in the stomach, neck, face and right arm as she sat in a guard hut on the premises of the Georgetown School of Nursing in East Street.
The attacker then fled the scene, leaving the badly wounded woman behind. She was eventually taken to the GPHC by another female guard, who was working at another section of the premises when the attack occurred.
The suspect was still at large at press time, but has been contacting the victim’s family by phone to enquire about his ex-girlfriend’s condition.
Kaieteur News understands that the man is about 61 years old and resides in Princes Street, Lodge.
Patricia Rose, who is employed by Kanhai’s Security Service, said that she was sitting in the guard hut near the front gate just after midnight when she saw the suspect scale the fence.
Before she could react, the man had whipped out a knife and stabbed her in the neck, face and right arm.
Rose said that when she attempted to fight back, the man slashed her in the stomach before fleeing.
Bleeding profusely from her wounds, the woman then staggered to the back of the compound, where another female guard was on duty. She then collapsed.
Kaieteur News understands that the other guard had heard Rose’s cries but thought at first that the sounds were coming from the nearby maternity ward.
Clutching her stomach and aided by her colleague, Rose said, she eventually managed to walk to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she was admitted.
Kaieteur News understands that the woman and the suspect had shared a common law relationship, but separated abut a year ago.
According to Rose, the suspect had visited her home last week Sunday and had threatened to kill her after she spurned his advances. However, she did not report the threat.
Rose’s relatives allege that the assailant has been calling them and enquiring about his ex-girlfriend’s condition.
Kaieteur News managed to contact the suspect on his cell phone in an attempt to persuade him to surrender.
However, the man, a former security guard, denied stabbing his ex-girlfriend and claimed that Rose’s present boyfriend is the likely culprit.
According to the suspect, he visited Patricia Rose at her worksite on Friday night, since she had promised to cook for him. However, the boyfriend was there, so he decided to leave.
“Two hours later, they (relatives) call me and say that she get chop. I don’t know anything about that!” the man said.
“When they call last night they say she ain’t know is who (attacked her), but yet police went by my home.”
The suspect eventually said that he would turn himself in if police arrested Rose’s boyfriend.
