Police are questioning a taxi driver whose passenger was robbed of his firearm, a quantity of raw gold and $1.6M cash, yesterday.
The robbery occurred at about 09:25 hours at Hadfield and High Streets, Georgetown.
A police press release stated that miner Nazim Kassim of Bartica was attacked and robbed by four men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
Investigations have revealed that Nazim Kassim was using a taxi to transact his business in the city.
While doing so at a business place at Hadfield and High Streets, he was about to collect his briefcase from the vehicle when he was confronted by the four men who held him up and took away the briefcase, which contained his licensed .32 pistol and ammunition, a quantity of raw gold and $1.6 million cash, and escaped in another motor vehicle.
Acting on information the police detained the taxi driver and he is assisting with the investigations.
