The Police Wives’ Association has embarked on a move to resuscitate branches of the organisation in the Policing Divisions throughout the country in order to enhance the work of the body.
The association, which has been in existence since April 1953, has as its objectives, developing a friendly atmosphere among the spouses of policemen, to equip the wives to improve conditions in their homes through home improvement classes, and to assist in the development of the children of police ranks.
Recently, several Executive Members of the Guyana Police Wives’ Association visited ‘D’ Division (West Demerara/East Bank Essequibo) and resuscitated a branch of that body in the Division. The Police Wives’ Association was active through a unit that was established on West Demerara, but which had been dormant for some time now.
Elected to lead the Divisional Executive of the Police Wives’ Association were Chairperson, Inspector Ora Fredericks; Vice-Chairperson, Inspector Stacy Robinson; Secretary, Corporal 15448 Corolla Marshall; and Assistant Secretary, Corporal 17693 Allison Daniels.
Over the years, the Guyana Police Wives’ Association has grown from strength to strength and, with the support of the Force Administration, has made significant contributions to the social development of the wives of policemen and female police ranks.
The Association is directly responsible for the management of the Police Force’s Juliet Griffith Day Care Centre. Membership of the Guyana Police Wives’ Association is open to women in the general society and not limited to the wives’ of policemen and female police ranks.
