Ranks of an alert police patrol recovered an unlicenced .32 pistol in the toilet of a fuel station mini mart and may have thwarted a robbery on the establishment.
At about 23:30 hours on Wednesday night four men in a motor car went to the service station and two of them went into the mini mart. During this time ranks of a police patrol in the vicinity conducted a search on the motor vehicle.
While the police were searching the vehicle, one of the two men in the mini mart asked the facility’s cashier to use the toilet facilities and after the police patrol had left, the four men drove away in their motor vehicle.
A search was subsequently carried out in the mini mart’s toilet after the men left and the firearm and ammunition were found and handed over to the police. Investigations are continuing.
