Eagles United, defeated Blueberry Hill 1-0 while Winners Connection blanked Netrockers 2-0 when competition in the Banks DIH Coca Cola / Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport / Upper Demerara Football Association division one league continued at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground on Tuesday night.
Sean Major netted Eagles’ winning strike in the 38th minute from a goal scrimmage off a free kick, a result which took them within one point of Blueberry Hill (20) and 4th in the standings with one game in hand.
And goals either side of play by Rawle Gittens (40) and Rene Gibbons (83) carried Winners Connection to their first win of the second round and only their third in the league against Netrockers (10), who still occupy the bottom place in the standings. Winners now occupy the sixth position on 13 points.
Meanwhile, according to the UDFA executive, the remainder of the competition has been suspended indefinitely as a result of the closing of the Mackenzie Sports Club ground which would be used for the Guyana Teachers Union National Track & Field Athletic Championships. No other venue the UDFA said is available to host first division matches in the Mining Town.
