Colin Benjamin, 44, is counting his lucky stars after he survived an acid attack some two weeks ago.
According to Benjamin, he was out partying with friends at Demico House on the evening of the incident. The man said that he left Demico House at around 12:30 am and was proceeding home at Leopold and Cross Streets when a heavily tinted car drove up.
The man said that he did not take it for anything because it could have being someone he knew. But seconds later, the windows were wound down and the corrosive substance was thrown on him. He said that he fell off his bike and was assisted by public-spirited persons.
Benjamin was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital nursing third degree burns from his neck right down to his abdomen. He also said that he is totally blind in the left eye as a result of the incident, and is in severe pain because of the extensive burns that he sustained. The man said that he is still awaiting the arrival of the police since the incident, and that no one has come to take a statement from him.
According to hospital sources, the man has a long way to go, and would be in hospital for some time because of the degree of burns.
