Rodeo fans will be in for treat today when the Rising Sun Rodeo Committee stages its annual 10-event card at the Rising Sun Turf Club West Coast Berbice staring from 11:00hrs.
According to organizer and president of the Rising Sun Rodeo Committee, cattle farmer Inshanally Habibullah the event this year is expected to be grand and the biggest and best since the activity recommenced three years ago.
Ten events are listed for the day’s programme which includes steer roping, bare back bronco riding, male and female barrel race, wild cow milking, calf roping, wild bull riding, and saddle bronco.
Habibullah said that apart from the regular events they will be pulling off some surprises on the day so as to get everyone involved. He said a bumper crowd is expected to be on hand, as rodeo fans will see the best vaqueros in the business on show.
Vaqueros from throughout the country will participate, and the idea is to bring the activity to the coastal plane so those living in the area and would have never seen a rodeo, will have an opportunity to be a part of the action, instead of making the long journey to the hinterland.
Habibullah said that among the “best” vaqueros on show are those coming from as far as Lethem and the Rupununi Savannahs. A few are also expected from overseas including Suriname, Venezuela and Brazil.
Over $1M in trophies and prizes are will be up for grabs in the one-day mega event.
