By Sean Devers
Former Guyana youth Keeper Delbert Hicks slammed the competition’s first century while ex-West Indies Test leg-spinner Mahendra Nagamootoo and first-class leggie Davendra Bishoo grabbed four-wicket hauls last Friday in the second round of the Berbice zone of the National 20/20 first division cricket competition sponsored by Gafoor’s.
The left-handed Hicks, belatedly added to the squad for the President’s Cup three-day competition, smashed 12 fours and here sixes in his exhilarating unbeaten 103 and added 112 with Guyana first-class batsman Royston Crandon (42) as hosts Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB) beat Skeldon by 73 runs while Nagamootoo’s 4-12 helped Port Mourant to an eight-wicket win against Upper Corentyne Reform (UCR).
And former Guyana 20/20 star Imran Khan (39), Ranga Lachigadu (37*) and West Indies left-hander Narsingh Deonarine (29) assisted Albion to a 113-run victory against Scotsburg United as first-class leg-spinner Davendra Bishoo captured 4-3 for the winners.
Waheid Edwards scored his second his consecutive fifty in the competition to spearhead Young Warriors to a seven-wicket win against West Berbice while Ramesh Budram’s even half-century gave Blairmount a 38-run win against Bermine.
Blairmount and Young Warriors with four points from two games lead zone ‘A’ while Port Mourant with four points from two matches and RHTWSB with two points from one game, are the front runners in zone ‘B’ going into the third round which is scheduled for Friday.
Meanwhile, the Berbice Cricket Board of Control has fined Albion $10,000 and their Captain Test opener Sewnarine Chattergoon $3,000 after Chattergoon led his team off the field against Skeldon in their opening round match at Skeldon after a six was signaled by the Umpire although the Albion players claimed that national under-19 player Jonathan Foo had held the catch inside the boundary.
