Roy Ramphal yesterday had one of the most disturbing days of his life when he lost his right leg hours after being fired from his job.
Ramphal was struck down by a motor car on the East Bank Public road at around 21:00 hours, while attempting to fix a truck belonging to his former employers.
Ramphal 39, of Covent Garden had lost his job with Guysuco earlier in the day as a result of a medical condition that he had. He was employed as a truck driver.
As fate would have it, the truck developed a mechanical problem and the driver who commenced driving that truck yesterday sought his assistance given that he would have been familiar with the vehicle.
Ramphal left his home and accompanied his former fellow employee to the road where the truck was parked on the Prospect Public Road.
It was while he was about to fix the vehicle the car which was proceeding in a southerly direction struck him, sending him in one direction and his leg in the other.
According to eyewitnesses, the car was traveling at a fast rate when it clipped him slamming him into the truck that resulted in him losing a portion of his right leg, just above the knee.
It was only discovered that Ramphal had lost his leg when the driver of the car placed him into his vehicle to transport him to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre. The leg was also picked up and placed into a bag and taken to the hospital.
However it is unlikely that it will be reattached. The driver of the car is presently in police custody. Sacked driver’s leg ripped off while helping replacment
