According to reports thirty-three-year-old Guyanese all-rounder Lennox Cush will miss next Saturday’s opening match for the Stanford Super Stars against defending Stanford 20/20 regional champions Trinidad and Tobago because of a knee injury sustained during Tuesday’s warm-up game in Antigua.
The right-handed Cush, who turns 34 in December, is considered a crucial member of the Stanford Super Stars line-up especially for his economical off-spin and according to a reliable source Cush will be out of action for six to seven days but should be available his team’s second match against England 20/20 county champions Middlesex next week Thursday and the 20/20 for US$20 million on November 1.
It is understood that Cush, who has two centuries and two fifties from 38 matches since making his debut 1996, injured his knee in a mix-up with Dave Mohamed but is recovering well.
The aggressive batsman, who made his debut for the USA where he now resides in 2006, has reportedly been contacted about his availability to play for the USA in the West Indies regional one-day competition scheduled for Guyana from November 14-27, but is keen on representing Guyana in this competition.
Cush has played 28 regional one-day matches and seven 20/20 matches and is looking forward to being fully fit for the Stanford competition, the regional one-day series and the next regional Stanford 20/20 tournament.
Cush is not too keen on playing first-class cricket at this point in his career but wants to be a part of the Guyana team which will hope to recapture the Stanford title next year after helping the team to win the inaugural tournament in Antigua.
Cush also played when Guyana lost to Jamaica in the semi-final of last year’s competition when he claimed a hat-trick for the South Americans.
