Residents of Fort Wellington, West Coast Berbice have been without water for the past month despite promises of a correction of the system.
Yesterday, several residents complained to this newspaper that the water situation is very distressing as they have to pay at least $6,000 a tank for water.

“Whenever the pipe gives water is just drips,” the resident said.
Over the past month, another resident said, they have been paying $6,000 for a tank of water.
Residents are disputing comments by Regional Chairman, Harrinarine Baldeo that the water situation has almost returned to normalcy in Berbice following blackout scenario over the past week.
Baldeo told Kaieteur News that GWI is running its pumps all night as long as there is electricity.
Standby generators have been installed at Rosignol, Ithaca and at Number Four Village.
Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of Guyana Water Incorporated, Karan Singh said that his company is implementing an emergency plan for residents on West Coast Berbice who are being severely affected by constant power outages, which is as a result of the incapability of the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) company to provide electricity to the areas.
He told Kaieteur News that the water company is currently involved in the process of installing generators at most of the service stations on West Coast Berbice.
The water company is also looking to source two other generators, which they are hoping to install at Weldaad and Calcutta.
Over the past week, West Berbice has been without electricity for most of the day, while the supply of potable water has been inconsistent.
For some villages, there has been no supply of electricity or water for the past three days.
On Monday last, Chief Executive Officer of GPL, Bharat Dindyal, had said that by this weekend the situation at Berbice will return to normalcy.
He pointed out that much effort is being put in place to rectify the situation.
On Saturday last, Prime Minister Hinds and members of the GPL board toured Regions Five and Six.
Over the past week, there have been two failures at Onverwagt power station, where one engine went down twice.
