The Medical Sciences Library of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation was, on Friday, bestowed with a substantial endowment of Nursing books, which came through the kind compliments of the Greenheart Medical University.
In presenting the reading materials to Sugrim Singh, the hospital’s manager for training and development, Rupert Singh said that it is hoped that the hospital’s library service would be greatly boosted.
According to him, the university was recently forced to discontinue its Nursing programme, since it was discovered that some persons were applying to be part of the programme but, when they arrive in Guyana, they would engage in unbecoming activities.
Sugrim Singh said that the substantial donation will go a long way towards serving the many people who use the library.
He added that recently the hospital started several new training programmes, given that GPHC has been labelled the leading teaching institution in the country.
“This library accommodates students of Nursing, medical students, doctors, members of staff, and even members of the public,” the manager pointed out.
The library, which opens at 07:30 hours and closes at 23:00 hours, serves the public every day, according to Daveteerth Anandjit, the Librarian in charge.
He said that while the library does not have a lending policy, it offers a wide variety of material which people can use for research.
The donated books would lend considerably to the service rendered by the library, he added.
