Police investigators on the West Coast of Demerara remain baffled over the cause of death of 59-year-old Ishwar Seecharran, called Shilling, whose body was found on the roadway at East Meten-Meer-Zorg at around 15:00 hours on Monday.
While police said that Seecharran’s body bore wounds to the back of his head, they are still to determine what may have caused it.
According to Shereen Khan, a niece of the dead man, she too is shocked at the death of her uncle, whom she described as a hard working man who interfered with no one.
She said that she was at home when another relative came and told her, “Shilling deh bleeding bad pon de road”.
Khan said she went to the area where she saw Seecharran lying in front of a liquor restaurant with blood all over his body. He was already dead.
The woman said that she has received conflicting reports of what might have happened to her uncle.
She told this newspaper that one report suggested that Seecharran was run over by a vehicle.
Another report is that the elderly man may have been beaten.
But none of the reports seem to add up since according to Khan, Seecharran was killed in broad daylight where many persons traverse and no one has given police any useful information.
The police are awaiting the results of a post mortem examination to determine what further course their investigation will take.
