DEAR EDITOR
A broken pipeline may be the cause of stagnated water in Kaikan Street, North Ruimveldt. Residents are disgusted at the present situation, and even fear for their health.
One resident said they are suffering this discomfort for the past four months, and would welcome any assistance given in alleviating this problem.
She also spoke about the poor drainage facility, which may be a contributing factor to the water not receding off the street.
The residents of Kaikan Street later formed a self-help committee in an attempt to solve their woes, but their efforts were proven unsuccessful.
Several reports were made to the Guyana Water Incorporated Sewerage and Drainage Department, but no action was taken by the relevant authorities.
Residents have expressed fear of water-borne diseases and the harbouring of mosquitoes that are usually attracted to unhealthy environments.
Recently, a school-aged child was diagnosed with typhoid and had to receive ten injections from the Georgetown Public Hospital.
At present, some engineers attached to the Guyana Water Incorporated are working assiduously to ascertain the cause of the stagnant water. Carlon Aaron
