Police in Essequibo have detained three Nigerians whom they suspect are part of an illegal human smuggling ring.
The men were held at about 16:00 hours on Saturday while they were travelling in a car at Anna Regina.
The men reportedly admitted to entering the country illegally.
In the past, Guyanese authorities have arrested several African nationals, mostly Nigerians, for entering Guyana illegally.
It is believed that the aliens are using Guyana as a transit point for further destinations in North America.
The three Nigerians are presently assisting detectives with investigations.
