Skipper Shawn McKay led from the front with a commanding 103 in a losing cause as Meten-Meer-Zorg lost to Cultural in the semi-final of the West Demerara zone Hand-in-Hand Demerara Cricket Board second division 50-overs knock-out cricket competition, while McGill beat All Youth in the other semi-final to advance to Sunday’s zone final at the Wales ground from 09:30hrs.
In last Sunday’s Semi-finals, Cultural won the toss and reached 255-8 in game reduced to 45 overs with Thaigpaul Persaud leading the way with 71 decorated with two fours and six sixes.
Saheed Gittens, who struck five fours and two sixes in 58 and Sham Persaud (24*) supported as pacer Tavindra Mangra took 2-28 and left-arm pacer Rafeek Mohamed 2-38.
Meten-Meer-Zorg were then dismissed for 217 in 36.2 overs as McKay blazed away with seven sixes and five fours but got little support as only Avinash Shardananda (28) and Mangra (11) of the other batsmen, reached double figures as spinner Mohamed Imtiaz took 5-27 and Gittens supported with 2-21.
In the other semi-final, Rickey Persaud made 29 as All Youth fell for 98 in 36 overs with Jagdeo Balgobin (4-18) and Gangaram Lochan (3-20) did the damage with the ball for McGill.
McGill raced to 101-1 in just seven overs as Rameshwar Persaud made an unbeaten 40 and Naresh Bedasee scored 22.
