The post–mortem for the Courts Pacesetters basketball player, who collapsed and died on Burnham Basketball Court on Sunday failed to answer the question as to what caused the sudden death of the 21–year–old.
A hospital source told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that the results from the post–mortem were “inconclusive” and that “specimens” are likely to be sent overseas for further testing to reveal the cause (s) of death.
The basketball player, Kevin Worrel, was pronounced dead at 4:16 pm at the Georgetown Public Hospital after collapsing on the court during a Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association ‘Retreat’ on Sunday.
Worrel’s father, Colin Worrel, had told this newspaper at the hospital that his son had no known medical problem. His mother, Rhonda Johnson, supported that claim on Monday when she said that he was very “strong”.
The mysterious incident sent shock waves through the local and international basketball fraternity as condolences poured in from as far as the United States–based, Haynes Basketball Foundation.
