– October 25 date settledFighters to appear on the Mc Neal Enterprises / Stanford Solomon October 25 Boxing Card dubbed ‘The Perfect Storm’ have now been confirmed according to a release from the promoters.
The main bout on the Card is between local middleweight champion Howard Eastman, who will defend his title against former WBA welterweight champion Andrew ‘Sixhead’ Lewis over 12 rounds.
The other supporting fights will see US-based Raul Frank, who tackles Winston Pompey over 10 rounds in a middleweight scrap; Leon Moore engaging Cecil Smith in a 6-rounder at 135 pounds; another US-based Elton ‘Coolie Bully’ Dharry going up against Orlan ‘Pocket Rocket’ Rogers in a 6-round bantamweight contest and the lone female clash pits Veronica Blackman and Sharon ‘Stone’ Ward, also over 6 rounds.
The Card is expected to provide local fight fans with lots of action, especially the main bout.
Eastman, who once held the British, Commonwealth and European titles, will definitely need to utilise all his experience to get past the skilful Lewis.
A fighter that has fought some of the best there is in the business including William Joppy, who gained a contentious win over him in November 2001 and Bernard ‘The Executioner’ Hopkins in February 2005 when he produced an uninspiring display that left many of his supporters disappointed.
The former Britain-based fighter turned pro in 1994 and boasts a healthy record 43 wins and 6 losses in 49 fights.
He will no doubt be looking to continue his successful run since returning home which saw him wrest the national title from ‘Deadly’ Denny Dalton via a unanimous decision earlier this year.
The ‘Battersea Bomber’ as he is familiarly known should start as the favourite due to his vast experience, especially against tough opponents and his superior ring activity, but must be reminded that Lewis is a different proposition to Dalton and he will need to be in top shape to get past a determined looking Lewis, who had displayed terrific form in the gym before a shoulder injury forced him to briefly abandon training.
It should be noted also that Lewis is a very crafty fighter with a lethal punch, but inactiveness could be the determining factor as it relates to his timing and precision.
The south paw Lewis had stated in an earlier interview that he has lost none of his skills and hunger and cautioned opponents to take him seriously since he the current course he has taken is aimed at returning to the pinnacle of the sport and one that does not cater for obstacles.
Lewis has fought 29 times and recorded 23 victories, 3 losses, 2 draws and 1 no decision.
The former Albouystown resident captured the WBA title after beating James Page in 2001 and made one successful defence against Larry Marks, before stepping into the ring with the enigmatic Ricardo Mayorga in 2002.
Their first bout ended prematurely as Lewis suffered a nasty cut due to an accidental butt in the second round that forced a rematch.
The rest is history, their 2003 replay saw Lewis suffer a 5th round TKO, handing Mayorga the title.
He then suffered a loss to Antonio Margarito and was never able to regain his momentum eventually sliding down the rankings and into oblivion, before his trilogy with Dalton concluded with a unanimous decision in April 2007.
