Due to excellent response by the public to the special Kaieteur package, the domestic flights have been extended until the end of the year. A re-launch was held yesterday at the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce.
Present at the launching were Director of Guyana Tourism Authority, Indranauth Haralsingh; Minister of Tourism, Manniram Prashad; Director of Rainforest Tours, Frank Singh; and Manager of Air Services Limited, Umadat Singh.
Haralsingh said Kaieteur Falls received record arrivals in August — a whopping 750 visitors. Umadat Singh said that this is the third such package of its kind for the year and Air Services Limited is in full support. Frank Singh said that domestic flights to Kaieteur Falls will be on this and every Saturday until the end of December.
He noted that this is a good opportunity for Guyanese to have the opportunity to visit the majestic Kaieteur Falls.
Tourism Minister, Manniram Prashad, said that President Bharrat Jagdeo made the call last year at the Tourism conference for affordable domestic tourism. Rainforest Tours and Air Services Limited stepped up to the plate and offered a package. The price was cut by 50 per cent.
Minister Prashad has issued a call for all tour operators to come on board and offer similar packages, not only to Kaieteur Falls but also other tourist destinations.
The Minister also noted that there are ongoing discussions with investors to do an eco lodge at Kaieteur National Park.
This package is a result of a collaborative effort by Air Services Limited, Kaieteur National Park, Rainforest Tours, the Guyana Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce. Kaieteur Falls is the world’s largest single drop water falls, measuring 741 feet.
