The nation saw the fourth annual Schools Physical Display National Championship yesterday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Facilitated by the Ministry of Education as part of the Education Month activities, the event was declared open by Ms. Lorraine Barker-King who is an administrator (Ag) within the Ministry of Education.
Ms Barker-King has said that physical display has grown in popularity, and she explained that this venture would help produce well-rounded students with improved self-esteem.
Education Minister Shaik Baksh, who was also present, said that Physical Display highlights the view that every school should be a part of the undertaking.
He further explained that the Ministry of Education has set up a National Management Committee, which would help ensure that such activities are perpetrated.
The minister posited that Physical Display would help children be more positive in there endeavours, and this would lead to change within the society.
He therefore urged the participants to put their “best” into their routines.
In a recent statement, the minister noted that Physical Instructors who were trained in Cuba would be called upon to assist the ministry.
As such, there would be collaboration between the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.
This decision came after Minister Baksh and Sports Minister Dr Frank Anthony discussed the promotion of Physical Display within schools.
Minister Baskh said that his ministry would take a lead role in this undertaking.
The minister has noted that with the skills that the instructors from Cuba had received, the programme would have overwhelming results.
