A 51-year-old man who tried to sell a shotgun he claimed he had earlier stolen was arrested by police in Berbice. Kaieteur News understands that Errol Suctoi, of Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, was held after the police recovered the shotgun with five cartridges at the Number 79 Village fisheries compound.
This newspaper was reliably informed that, at about 08:30 hours last week, an unemployed man from the Number 77 Village Housing Scheme told police that he was at a store in Corriverton when he was approached by a man who told him that he had a shotgun and cartridges to sell.
He provided police with information about the man.
A few minutes later, a party of policemen went to the fisheries compound, where they carried out a search and found the shotgun with cartridges next to a septic tank.
The 51-year-old man, who was there at the time, was questioned, and he claimed that he stole the weapon from two men at Crabwood Creek.
It is not yet clear if Suctoi has been charged and placed before the court.
