Two bandits snatched $2.9M yesterday after holding up a businessman and two porters near the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
The businessman, Bhagwandatt Jones, of Anna Regina, Essequibo Coast, was beaten by the men who also fired a shot at his truck.
According to reports, Jones was in his truck waiting to cross the Harbour Bridge, when two men, armed with a handgun and a knife, approached on both sides of the vehicle and held him up. Kaieteur News understands that the men asked the businessman for “the black bag with the money.”
When the businessman resisted, the robber with the handgun struck him in the face and discharged a round which struck the cab of his vehicle. Jones then handed over the cash and the robbers escaped in a waiting motor car.
Police confirmed that they have detained the two porters, since investigators feel that there was collusion between the bandits and persons close to the businessman.
