The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) has debunked a claim by Digicel that the company has more than 250,000 subscribers.
Speaking to Kaieteur News on the issue yesterday, Chief Financial Officer of GT&T, Yog Mahadeo, challenged Digicel to reveal what sort of measurement the company used to ascertain how many subscribers it has on the network.
Mahadeo noted that GT&T currently has over 340,000 persons registered to its network, and that the company can account for their customers. However, he refused to reveal what kind of measurement was used by GT&T to find out how many subscribers the company has.
He explained that the possibility exists that many of the 250,000 of those among the GT&T 340,000 may be subscribing to both networks.
He noted that sometimes a person may buy a cell phone and receive $3,000 worth in free credit and after that they may never reuse the phone. “Does that make that person a subscriber?” Mahadeo questioned.
According to Mahadeo, Digicel also needs to know what exactly these persons do with the phones when they purchase them, since according to him, the phones may never be used and still the person can be deemed as a subscriber.
Where is the BETTER MANAGEMENT/RENEGOTIATION OF THE OIL CONTRACTS you promised Jagdeo?
