The new Women and Gender Equality Commission will replace the National Commission on Women to play a more crucial role.
The responsibilities of the new body will include addressing gender issues, promoting the advancement of women in society and filing reports to international organisations.
Further, the Commission will be dealing with all policies and programmes at the highest level which will bring into effect the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women.
Aiding this cause, the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security is working diligently to ensure that human rights of both women and men are protected and maintained. That ministry is coordinating the nomination process for this Commission.
Further, the Commission aims to promote national recognition and acceptance that women’s rights are human rights, respect for gender equality, protection development and attainment of equality.
The Commission will comprise a 15-member body with persons being selected from 22 women and human rights entities countrywide.
