Softball cricket fans were thrilled yet again in a closely contested match at Helena Sports Club Ground at Mahaica last weekend.
In the main game Helena Sports Club batting first against Floodlights B made 96 all out in their allotted 25 overs with Marlon Williams top scoring with 22.
Runs were difficult to come by for the host due to some very discipline bowling and fielding from the Floodlights B team with Mike Singh and Mark Fung taking 3 wickets each in their five overs.
When Floodlights B took to the crease they found themselves in deep trouble with the last pair of Mike Singh and Ravi Ramnauth to get 4 runs in the last over for victory.
A six first ball in the 25 overs sealed the deal. Fidel Singh top scored with 23 and Abhilash Deokie made 12 being the top scorers for Floodlights B.
Marlon Williams took 4 for 13 in five overs and Jagdesh Persaud took 3 for 28 bowling for Helena, who also displayed good bowling and out field cricket.
In the First game between Floodlights A and Rohan Auto Spares XII, Rohan Auto Spares batting first made 176 for 9 in their allotted 25 overs with Rohan Mangal slamming 86 and Rupie Shewjattan contributing 27. Ricky Deonarain, Ray Seebaran and Kamal Seebaran took 2 wickets each for Floodlights A.
Floodlights A in reply, struggled to get to the winning total and were eventually 115 all out in 21 overs, with Ricky Deonarain top scoring with 46 and Ray Seebaran supporting with 15. Vincent Pompey took 4 for 16 and Rohan Boojraj took 3 for 17, being the chief wicket takers for Rohan Auto Spares.
Both matches were held as a fundraiser for Helena #1 Vishnu Mandir, which was highly successful, and all trophies for both matches was sponsored by Rohan Auto Spares of Mahaica.
The Floodlights A & B team made a generous donation yet again of $171,000 and 20 Bhagwat Gitas to the Helena Vishnu Mandir.
