Doctors at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) were up to late last night battling to save the life of an unidentified security guard who was struck down by a speeding motorcycle.
The accident occurred at the corner of Sussex and Saffon Streets, Charlestown, at around 17:45 hours.
The rider of the motorcycle, Shawn Appru, of Middle Road, La Penitence was also treated for injuries he sustained in the accident.
At the time of the collision, Appru was riding his Honda CG motorcycle south along Saffon Street when he came into the path of the security guard who was riding his bicycle west on Sussex Street.
The collision sent the security guard’s bicycle flying several feet away, while he remained hooked to the motorcycle which eventually came to a stop on Saffon Street.
Several persons rushed to the scene and found Appru in a semi conscious condition while the security guard remained unconscious even after initial treatment at the GPHC’s Accident and Emergency Unit, where they were both taken by a public spirited reporter from the nearby Kaieteur News.
