A far more than expected crowd had a fun filled day at the Hido Cricket Ground in Mahaicony Creek with three games of exciting softball matches.
In the first semi-final between Floodlights A and the Hido Cricket team, the home side batting first, made 147 all out in the final over of their allotted 20, with Ramchand Ragbeer ripping through the top order taking 6 for 25 in his allotted 4 overs. Amarnauth Ramcharan top scored with 33 for Hido Cricket Team.
It wasn’t an easy win for the Floodlights A who eventually made the winning run in the last over losing 8 wickets with Fidel Singh making 37 and Kamal Seebaran making 31.
In the second semi-final between Floodlights B and Gordon Table, Floodlights B batted first made 127 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs with Mark Harold top scoring with 39 and Rupie Shewjattan hitting 20.
Gordon Table made light work of the total by hitting off the required runs in the 10 overs, losing 3 wickets with Mahesh Boojraj making 84 not out. Mike Singh took 2 for 37 in his allotted 4 overs.
The final between Gordon Table and Floodlights A went down to the wire. Floodlights A took first strike and reached 120 for 7 in their allotted 15 overs with Sheik Mohamed scoring 48 and Fidel Singh 39.
Gordon Table who struggled with some tight fielding, brilliant catching and bowling by the Floodlights A, got their winning total with their last pair at the wicket requiring 5 runs in the final over with a six being hit off the fifth ball.
The Floodlights A & B teams despite losing, were very generous to the Gordon Table Rama Krishna Mandir and donated $140,000.
Trophies for these matches were provided by Derick Auto Sales of Happy Acre, ECD, whom also made a monetary contribution to the Mandir. Floodlights A& B will be travelling to Mahaica this Sunday in another fundraiser.
