The Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) is hosting the third visit of two student Rugby Coaches attached to England’s renowned Sports University, Loughborough College, as part of an exchange programme to the United Kingdom with Guyana’s National Coaches organized by the BOOST Charitable Trust Programme.
Alex Laybourne and Callum Convery arrived in Guyana Saturday last for a month long visit. Laybourne is majoring in Sports Psychology and Convery in Physical Education and Sports Administration at the University.
The two coaches will work with Guyana’s Schools Development Programme and with Guyana’s male and female players, including Guyana’s National Men’s and Women’s Sevens Teams in preparation for the NAWIRA Rugby World Cup Sevens Qualifier and Caribbean Women’s Championships to take in place in Bahamas, October 25 – 26.
The BOOST Programme relationship with West Indies Rugby began three years ago with Guyana and Jamaica being the first participants and now includes Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago and BVI.
Guyana’s coaches, Sherlock Solomon, Laurie Adonis and Alton Agard, have all benefited from a month long visit to the United Kingdom where they were exposed to a wide range of coaching and the experience of the rugby community and life in the United Kingdom.
