The curtains came down on the Abdulla Hamid Basketball Foundation (AHBF) ‘Summer’ Programme on Saturday at the Mackenzie Sports Club court in Linden amidst a simple presentation ceremony for top performers.
Rahiem Neils won an award in the boys’ 60 seconds shootout in the age 4–6 category while Ashmar Angel won in the boys’ 7–10 age group. Minisa Fox outfoxed her competitors in the girls’ 4–6 range.
Deval Wilson won the 60 seconds shootout for boys between the ages of 12 and 16 while Sheldon Noel took home the 15–17 age group. Oneseia Byass and Theodore Tapin combined to cart off the ‘mixed ball’ shootout.
Tapin returned with Marlon Pollydore to win the male ‘two–ball’ shootout while Shaquille Adams was voted Most Valuable Player (MVP) for an All–star game that an ‘E’ team won 46–44.
Pollydore got the ‘Most Disciplined Player’ award in the senior boys’ category while Wickham Charles and Neils were awarded in the junior and beginner categories respectively. Kayla Brusche won the female prize.
The basketball summer camp included sessions on crime prevention and social education on abuse and teenage pregnancy. It was the first time in the 18–year–old clinic that those aspects were introduced.
Some of the sponsors include the Abdulla Hamid family, Major Sports Centre, Corporate Supplies, John Davidson of New York, NBS Bank, World Access, Vanessa Kissoon, Angel family, Region 10 Agriculture and Forestry Production Association, Tom and Power Car Rental, RT and Sons Distribution, Bosai Minerals, Compare Bread and Supreme Variety Store.
