Police have recovered a haversack containing a quantity of marijuana following a shooting incident yesterday at the Berbice Car Park which has left one person injured.
Reports are that Junior Johnson, of Prince William Street, Plaisance, was shot in the right leg while being chased by a police mobile patrol.
While reports are still sketchy, this newspaper was told that around 15:00 hours yesterday, Johnson, who was at the Berbice Car Park, upon seeing the patrol, began running. He was closely followed by the police who discharged several rounds. The man was hit in the right leg.
The injured Johnson was picked up by members of the patrol and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was treated. However, up to press time it was not clear whether the man was admitted to the institution or not.
Meanwhile, investigators say that a haversack containing a large quantity of marijuana was found in the man’s possession.
