A fine allround performance by Chandreka Ragnauth guided Belle Plaine to a 20 run victory over Sea Shore in the final of the young Warriors Sports club of New York 15 overs softball Cricket Competition last Sunday at God Success, Wakenaam.
Ragnauth top scored with 45 and was well supported by Keval Chulai who made 28 as Belle Plaine rattled up 144 for 9 off their allotted 15 overs.
Mark Gittens, Anil Persaud, Vinood Ramadeen and Dilip Persaud picked up one wicket apiece for Sea Shore who in reply made 124 for 7 off their 15 overs.
Ragnauth returned with the ball to capture 3 – 24 while Toolsie Sahadeo supported with 3 – 22 for the winners.
Belle Plaine took away the winning trophy while Sea Shore collected the runner’s up prize. Each member of the winning team received a trophy while members of the runner up team were presented with medals for their effort.
Ragnauth was adjudged the man-of-the-match, while Sahadeo and Olwin Paton took the prizes for the most runs in the competition and the best catch in the find respectively.
Navindra Harrinarine, a member of the young Warriors Sports Club of New York, thanked the teams for participating in the competition and congratulated Belle Plaine for winning it.
He also said that the competition will be played annually and the Young Warriors Sports club, which is made up of Guyanese living in New York, is pleased to be associated with cricket development on the island.
