Ogle grabs 5-21 as trial match ends in draw
The Georgetown 14-man squad was yesterday announced for the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Inter-Association two-day under-17 cricket competition which is scheduled to commence tomorrow and GNIC Wicketkeeper Dexter Solomon will captain the side.
Solomon, who ended one dismissal shy of the leading ‘Keeper in the just concluded Sir Garfield Sobers International schools cricket competition in Barbados, will have Carlos La Rose as his deputy in a squad which includes four seam bowlers including batting all-rounder La Rose.
Up to press time yesterday it was not clear where or against which team Georgetown will play their first match although the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) had issued a press release with no details, stating that the four-team tournament would commence tomorrow. The City side, coached by former Guyana first-class off-spinner Garvin Nedd, is scheduled to have their first practice session today from 13:00hrs at the Everest ground.
Meanwhile, resuming on their overnight 44-3 in reply to Carlos Rose’s X1 175, Solomon’s X1 were dismissed for 118 as the match, which ended in a draw was called off just after 16:00hrs yesterday at the DCC ground.
Fast bowler Kevin Ogle snatched 5-21 to join former National under-15 pacer Andre Stoll and Seon Daniels as the specialist pacers in the squad which also include two off-spinners, a left-arm spinner and West Indies under-15 leg spinner Amir Khan.
Ricardo Devers, who took 5-21 on the first day of the trials and promising Malteenoes off-spinner Shaquille Williams, who grabbed 3-25 yesterday, are the off-spinners named while Raj Nanan will provide the left-arm spin with support for batting all-rounder Delon Fernandes.
Quincy Ovid made 27 and shared in a half-century partnership with the left-handed Dayanand Roopnarine, who top scored with 41 before they were both removed by Ogle. Khan also supported with 2-9 for La Rose’s X1.
The squad read: Dexter Soloman (Captain), Carlos La Rose (V/Capt), Dayanand Roopnarine, Rajiv Singh, Kumar Ramkissoon, Delon Fernandes, Andre Stoll, Ricardo Devers, Seon Daniels, Amir Khan, Quincy Ovid, Raj Nanan, Kevin Ogle, Shaquille Williams.
National under-15 captain Kwame Cross heads a list of six stand bys with the other stand bys being Joshua Lawrie, Sarfraz Essau, Steven Sampson, Clevon Hyman and Azad Mohamed.
