20/20 competition to commence shortly
With two new sponsors on board, cricket on the East Bank Demerara is set to take off with a 20/20 Competition to be played immediately after Carifesta.
This Competition is expected to attract some twelve teams and is scheduled to commence the first week in September. The sponsors are W&H Rambaran Marine and R&W Supermarket.
The cricket grounds at Farm, Providence, Diamond and Eccles will be used for the competition, while the ground at Diamond is match ready, some amount of work will be done at the other venues in order to also have them match ready.
Additionally, clubs/teams from the East Bank will be invited to participate in the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board Nationwide Second-Division 20/20 Competition and the Hand-in-Hand Second-Division 50-Over Competition.
Also, a squad of under-17 players will be selected to commence preparation for either a possible Demerara Inter-Association Under-17 Competition or trials towards selecting the Demerara Team for the 2008 Clico Inter-County Under-17 Competition.
It is expected that these Competitions will contribute towards the revival of cricket on the East Bank Demerara.
